Chicken liver

While at the doctor’s office yesterday, I was thumbing through a Field & stream magazine when I saw an article about using chicken livers for striper bait. You fish it on down rods, just like you would with herring. Has anyone ever heard of this? Or tried it? I’ve always thought of livers as catfish bait & used it as a kid with my dad.

I am sure it would work just like cut bait. They both seem to feed on the same thing. You could also use regular chicken that has marinated in minced garlic. I bet fresh chunks of perch would work as well.

Most any meat will work for Stripers, I was told by a Santee guide that he used livers since the 60-70’s.

He said he anchored on a flat or point next to deep water, and would draw the Stripers to his livers, VERY effective, he said.

I already spend enough on fishing.(according to my wife) I’m not about to let those stripers eat better than me!

This is probably no secret, but I have caught them on shrimp. The farmed crap from the grocery store is actually pretty cheap on sale. Catfish like them too. Fish all night on a pound.
