Tried to get my 14 and 11 year old boys to fish yesterday but they were too interested in other things so my 7 year old never says no. We put in at 3:45 and headed for 150ft were we put in. 2 small slingers in right away and a respectable gaffer in an hour later. Pushed deeper and about an hour and a half later had a reel scream. After a few minutes the hook pulled and no sightings. When we got the leader back to the boat the stainless hook was bent. Any ideas? Picked up another gaffer and then quiet for an hour or so. Though that might be it until we heard a reel scream and look back just in time to see the frenzy that occurred at the top of the water before the other 4 rods sounded. Only three people so my 7 year old had a rod Jeff on one and me on another. One broke off and one went into the prop. As we fought the fish a huge school of all large Mahi stayed at the boat with us. My 7 year old got his fish to the boat with almost no help until the end. Was shocked that he was able to fight his bull for as long as he did. Made a couple more passes and stayed on the fish. Had a little engine trouble that was easily fixed but had to leave the fish still there waiting to be caught. It was an awesome day on the water and so grateful that I have at least one kid that loves to fish as much as I do. Any guesses on the weight of the bull? Dark colors were hot until the end when it didn’t matter anymore. The fish that bent the hook hit the ballyhoo behind the teaser.
