I am considering purchasing a Lowrance sonar hub for my HDS10 Gen2 and was wondering if anyone could way in on what they thought of Chirp Sonar? Is it worth it? I already have the structure scan module and love it. I mainly bottom fish in < 120’ . Thanks

Birddog, try the Boats And Motors forum. I’m pretty sure you will get some input from there.

most says chirp does not do much in the 100 and less range… but past that it shines… it is not exactly straight forward tho… allot of the nss evo simrad guys are saying the chirp creates allot of “snow” or blue spots and is annoying… they end up going to a fixed number to dial out the snow which basically null and voids the chirp…
this video is basically the best representation of chirp how it works and the settings he is using…

remember once he goes to a fixed frequency it is no longer in chirp… so its something to think about.
i have read simrad is attempting to make some updates on the “issue” but no date has been given but they are aware.
Not a Lowrance, but I recently sold the TM150 (chirp) transducer I had connected to my Garmin 741xs. I didn’t find bottom contours or target separation to be very good at all in any depth, and could not get the unit to hold bottom at speed (anything greater than about 20 mph) after multiple adjustments. I replaced it with the $99 “all in one” Garmin down vu transducer and for the shallow water I stay in (around the harbor, up the ICW and Wando) it works perfect.

Got it, thanks for the info! I’ll post this in the boats and motors section.
