Just saw on the news–Three cases so far in s.c…
Yes - Here is a link to the article…
To be clear - it’s from RAW seafood, and they don’t know if it originated in SC waters yet.
Raw shellfish = going down to the harbor with a pint glass and drinking harbor water all night. Never really a good idea.
Had something similar after eating a raw oyster plucked off a piling last year. Probably not the smartest thing I ever did. But, it tasted great. I absolutely love raw oysters. Steamed oysters are just ok. To me, it’s worth the risk. A day in the bathroom waiting for the antibiotics to kick in is a small price to pay for the deliciousness of those tasty raw molluscs.
If two wrongs don’t make a right, try three.

I agree with you - the closest I normally get to raw shellfish is seared scallops that maybe could have used a few seconds more to get the middle. Other than that I’m not a fan - but plenty of people like oysters raw, and if the bacteria is here I would imagine (I’m certainly not a pro on this!!!) that it could affect that as well. I hope not for other folks enjoyment!
It’s not just that bacteria - they carry many forms of illness that are native to this area. Norovirus (stomach flu) being on of the biggest issues… a full blown case of 3 day Norovirus is enough to make anyone reconsider eating any raw shellfish.
Sewage treament plants fail from time to time, or they get overwhelmed by rainwater - so they dump into rivers/harbors and bays. Shellfish are filter feeders… raw oysters = concentrated poop.
If that’s the case I’ve eaten a lot of poop, and to be honest it was pretty good.
I’D HIT DAT!
