ok one last update before tomorrow disconnected harness hooked remote starter up and spun motor got spark on every cylinder. hooked harness back up got spark on every cylinder hooked my last gallon of 25:1 to motor primed it and BAM motor starts i stopped it being I didnt have water on and its also 9:00 neighbors be mad. So when the motor fired up it sounded better than this afternoon. I went thru the motor and book and double checked everything again. Maybe it was the fuel pump diaphram I got with my powerhead gasket kit that was over loading the cylinder with to much gas and flooded the plugs. whatever it was I’ll figure it out or die tryin. Thank you Chris V i know this is probably the last thing you wanna do when you get home from wrk is talk about motors lol
Well fellas looks like this guys going for a boat ride tomorrow. The trigger that hankel installed was bad causing the motor to misfire on all cylinders. I indexted the flywheel like Chris V said and every cylinder was misfiring. SO to double check everything completely I went and got a DVA adapter and yep it was the trigger. Replaced the trigger with the parts motor trigger and BAM the motor is running great and ready to test drive. Everything is in working order motor once warm fires up turn key. I can barely hear some chatter inside but thats only when you stick your head close to the block and it sounds like its upper two cylinders reed side so this winter we will be going back in to fix those bearings. Wasnt as bad as everyone thinks just confusing for the First Rebuild. And Thanks again Chris V I definitly owe you a cold one. Ill give an update on the run tomorrow and looking forward to heading to the ledge sat/sun
Dude; You are one brave man taking that to the Ledge after the rebuild. I think I’d stick a little closer to shore and build a little confidence in that motor first. At least let the bearings work in a little!
Yea I planned on going out tomorrow and do a good break in on a spare tank with extra oil. IF everything goes well which I’m hoping I will take it out friday also all day on the main tank. I have a good strong running motor if anything goes wrong to help limp me back in. If I do decide to take it offshore I will definitly be very cautious as I will bring some extra safetly equipment and necessities. Im not completely clueless and will not just go if there are issues and I dont feel like I can make it. Atleast I can get to some live bottom and fish my heart out.
Well #$@# Im just so frustrated right now. So I got up early excited to clean the boat and get her ready. Painted the cowling, clean the whole boat top to bottom, Had the batteries charged up all night. Went and fired starboard motor Bam fired up ran her 1-2 mins on the muffs perfect shifting F-N-R good shape. Switched the muffs to port primed the bulb nothing, took the cowling off looked at all the wiring made sure I connected everything back right. pulled the plugs a little oily no problem. Hooked the spark tester up and nothing on all four cylinders. Pulled the electronics cover looked at all the wires. Starter was a little hot figured from me tryin to crank the motor over. Grabed the DVA meter and Troubleshoot guide from CDI and tester the trigger 1600ohms of resistance should be between 800-1400 had 759ohms last night. checked the DVA reading and got 2.32/ 2.12 Paper calls for 4+. So my parts motor trigger is shot too. How the heck could this happen. No shorted wires everything hooked up properly. I just dont understand how It could go back through out the night. yesturday afternoon the trigger from CDI hankel installed went bad. Today the trigger from CDI off my parts motor went bad. The stator tested good yesturday and today with the DVA readings. I disconnected the harness again and no spark. disconnected the regulator/recitifier still no spark. Im absolutly gone mad over this electronics system. I mean Ive replace just on this motor two triggers/1 stator/1 switchbox. Now someone please help me out with what Im doing wrong.
No brother I will make sure before I leave to go anywhere offshore ledge or just off the beach that everything is in working order. Just an update on my last update. I went back out to the motor and started testing everything again after calibrating my
mind. I tested the stator which calls for blue/bluewhite wires 180-400v and red/redwhite wires 25-100V I have blue/bluewhite wires 213v and red/redwhite wires 38V and its says if your DVAvreading is low disconnect stator wires and test again if the stays low it bad stator and if the readings go to specs then its your switchbox/powerpack. Well my readings are within specs. Ive checked the magnets on the flywheel and everything is in good shape even checked center magnet. Ok so move onto the trigger DVA outputs purple/white i get a bunch of scrabble when i turn the motor over cant get a good reading on the DVA meter thats not normal is it. Anyways the specs is suppose to be 4v+ same as the brown/whiteblack wires. So it says to disconnect the trigger wires and test again and when i test purple/white i get 3.13V when i test brown/whiteblack I get 3.23V so it says that if the reading stays low its a bad trigger if its within specs the pack is bad. Im close to the specs but within specs. Could I have a bad power pack and Trigger. I replaced the switchbox with the one on my parts motor before the rebuild because I tested the older switchbox that came with the boat and it was definitly bad. OH Yea I have spark now on my motor and it fires up WTF… I wanna rip my freaking head off I gotta go calibrate. Chris V any help. I cant afford to bring it in somewhere for them to charge me a crazy rate, when I have everything to do it myself. Just need some guidence PLEASE
just an update I ended up having fire I couldnt see it during the afternoon so if you have fire whats next fuel. So i ran down the fuel issue. Checked tank fitting, checked water fuel seperator, check fuel lines and hose clamps, checked bulb no prime disconnected the quick connect and primed it till fuel came out. Hooked everything back up and still no fuel. Disconnected the quick release motor side and took out the whole line to fuel pump looked ok. put it up against the sun and looked thru it and there it was trash plastic liner that comes in the new fuel lines you get from westmarine white looking kind. The inside of the tube is lined with a plastic liner. So I replaced it with some older rubber gray fuel line and connected everything up. And the motor fires up no problem turn of a switch. Going to walmart to replace my bilge then connect and Ill be water bound fellas. Wish me luck.
Since my last update I replaced the bilge and yes it had a branch stuck in the motor causeing it to lock up. Added strainers to the fishboxes with 5200 to stop that from happening again. So loaded the boat up with gas mixed and had a spare 9 gallon tank for the rebuild motor double oil. I have to say fellas all the anguish and frustration I was having all paid off. The motor is great. It cranks up the turn of a key goes in and out of gear with no hicups ran it for 3 hrs like chris v said low idle and changing rpm up and down every ten mins or so. Then after that I decided to do a trial run and see what shes got with my tack not workin on my rebuild(port), I have no clue what shes running but she sounds better than the starboard motor with more power. So with that said trimed out as best I could get her with 70 gallons and two average people her WOT is 35.4 knts thats better than the 17knts I got before lol. Now I looked up the edisto 40 numbers on GPS its a good 15-20 miles from stono inlet and decided to take her out. And we head out in a nice 3-4 swell day doing 29 knts bow down eating away the waves. Get to the edisto 40 with no problems. Wish I had brought my fishing polls (**()it. While we were heading out we pulled back idle and made sure she trolled correctly. Perfect no hesitation on wot and no hesitation in idle even putting her in netural she was perfect. So headed back with a nice following sea thru the morris island inlet which was a little scaring being I havent been that way in forever and back to the ramp. I’m heading out tomrrow and going fishing. I might venture out to the ledge if things are still going good in the morning. I will be monotoring 9/16/65/68 Trophy wifes madain voyage. Wish us luck got my ditch bag stocked and my epirb ready lol. Tight lines hope my next forum will be with a bloody deck n picture. Thanks everyone.
I just have to ask FlyingHigh are you being a smart butt and think I am lying about this situation? If so please pm me and I will give you my address to come look at my shop and parts and pics. And yes I did make it out yesterday in some rough waves to the ledge and back with a cooler full. Thank you and I will be reporting with pics.
