Chris V, Yamaha Question

Purchased a new (to me) boat with a 2000 Yamaha OX66 200HP fuel injected motor. Someone I know suggested running a bottle of ring free through it every month. Is this necessary or suggested? The previous owner was diehard yamalube user and has never used anything other than Yamalube 2 stroke oil. I do not know it he ran ring-free through it before, but will find out. If he hasnt, what kind if issues can I expect doing it the first time?

Update… The previous owned has never run ring free through the motor.

10-4, I will come see you. I assume you have what I need?

pull the o2 sensor & heat it with a torch & clean it. If you can’t find ringfree, Chevron Techron is the same thing according to the MSDS.

The motor is 15 years old at this point. If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.

Next time you come in, come heavy, or not at all…

That is one way to look at it. I was looking at it from the point that “It ain’t broke yet, so why not fix is before it does?”
