Chris V......

CHris, I have a 2000 Yamaha OX-66 200hp EFI. Changed the fuel filter a month or so ago and have been out several times with no issues. Went out yesterday and left the dock, got up on plane and the motor died. Pumped the ball, cranked right back up and the same. Figured it was probably the fuel pump. Got it back on the trailer and pulled the cowl to look to see if I could see anything obivious. Noticed the filter canister was empty so I Squeezed the ball. As it filled to the top, gas started coming out around the locking ring, so I pulled the spring catch up out of the way and got 3-4 whole revolutions on the retaining ring and tightened it up and let the spring catch back down. It was on tight when I changed the filter and it has performed flawlessly on several trips since. Have yall ever had issues of these working themselves loose, even with the spring loaded catch that would prevent them from backing off? I’m scratching my head on this one!!

I was thinking someone would have to do this, but to do so, they would have to hook up to the boat, pull it out of the lean-to to get the motor cover off, loosten the ring, put everything back together and back the boat back in, so I doubt that.

IF THE CLIP IS INSTALLED IT CANT TURN, BUT MAYBE THE O- WASNT ALLOWING IT TO FULLY TIGHTEN, BUT IT WAS MAKING A SEAL, AND IT VIBRATED LOOSE?

IF I RESPOND IN ALL CAPS, ITS NOT ON PURPOSE, AND I AM NOT YELLING

Thats possible. I know for sure it is tight now, so if it does it again, I will know something is up.
