First slow troll of the year. Had a quad hookup at the 60. Probably all AJ’s. Got one to the boat around 30 lbs. Caught a dolphin in 55’ of water just past the 60 (4 miles) probably weighed 6 lbs or so. Headed in around 11:00. Daymaker was running the new boat in the sand behind Sullivans. Talk about feeling like a d.a. Tow Boat was very responsive, but we were able to push it off after about 20 minutes.
Glad to hear the dolphin are coming close. Great report!

Anyone keep AJ’s around here? In the gulf we used to keep em, but here people don’t seem to.
i don’t think so. i heard they can have pretty big worms throughout the meat.
I heard of a good recipe for ajs you start with an aj fillet a boot a 2x4 and a pile of s@#$! Cook it all together for 20 min… throw the fish and the 2x4 away and eat the boot!

AJ actually tastes pretty good, once you get the worms out, or just close your eyes and bite!
Long Enuff
ambercritter is good fried.Teaser2 cleans them regularly.stay away from the tail, and so will the worms.
We have kept some and just cut the end towards the tail off to avoid worms. House Autry and peanut oil made me want to catch some more. Very firm tasty fish when fried. Slipped some in with some fried dolphin and the aj was actually preferred by some until they found out what it was of course:smiley:
Nothing wrong with an AJ. I’m just glad everyone thinks so.

ajs are on a lot of fine restuarant menus down in florida. not a bad eating fish at all. especially if you cut it into nuggets and fry it.
quote:there were piles and piles of them sold to Kiawah/Seabrook Seafood back in the 90's.....I know for a fact......they turned around and sold them to restaurants all over the place.Unless you caught it,cleaned, and cooked it,you don't really know what your served.
