Chub Cay / Berry Islands Fishing

Anyone fished this area in Bahamas? where to troll and bottom fish? Going in early May and never been this area before. taking a big sailboat and 21 ft CC. Looks like water gets deep just a few miles offshore. thnx

Been,there several times,many years ago.
Chub Cay is on the south end of the Berry Island chain.
Marina is very nice, you will want to keep an eye on your chart, for the entrance.
Fish, the drop off to the south of Chub, large ocean tounge, most large fish, hang on the edge.
As for bottom fishing, just fish the reef patches. lots of grouper and snapper and yellow tail, later in the day.
There is lots of shallow water around there, if you draft more than 6’,you must have charts,to follow.
Also, the lobster there are HUGE,compared to Fla.
Hope this helps

Most folks troll the “pocket” west of Chub. You will see the boats there. Anywhere between Jolters Cays and the marker will be good. Don’t get too close to the drop because the cudas will tear you up. The bottom fishing is pretty good anywhere but the best I found was off Bonds Cay to the NE of Chub. I would drift, depending on the breeze covering the reef and the edge of the drop. Problem is once the sharks find you you need to move to another spot.
