Looking for a chum grinder that won’t cost me an arm and a leg. Any suggestions?
Go in with a couple guys and rent a wood chipper.
You can make a ton of chum to fill your freezer(s) in no time flat.
It helps to put the whole fish in frozen solid.
Set up a plywood “catch board” for the outlet side.
Use shovels to fill your buckets.
Short straw gets to hose out the chipper.
I have been very tempted to get this one.

Looks like I’ll be checking out Northern Tool. The blender idea seems like a good idea for pre-making it. Thanks for the input.
I heard over the weekend from a friend that chumming was illegal in SC, true or not? They said they were stopped by DNR at the landing with a bucket of chum and we’re told they would be ticketed if they used it. I called BS, but have been wrong before.

SC has what is known as statutory law, many time I have heard stuff like “you cannot drive barefoot”, “radar detectors are against the law”…(neither are illegal btw) There must be a specific statute in SC law detailing the illegal activity. If there were such a law the DNR guys would have willingly quoted it. So, in SC unless there is a specific statute against it, it is not against the law. Chum away. If there is a statute…name it.

Don’t give the anti’s any new ideas, the way they work if they cannot take down one of their targets(guns, hunting, fishing…)is to nibble around the edges, ban lead shot, lead bullets, certain kinds of hooks, different catch limits forthe same species in different areas(any ofthis sound familiar?) If they cannot take it down directly they will try to hobble it, tie it up in endless regulation and make it so hard to pursue the activity that folks will say what the hell and just quit.
Harbor freight on Dorchester Rd. has a small diameter wood chipper for $100 its electric powered. If taken care of and washed out after every use it should last a season or two. Even the old school hand grinders cost about the same or more. If you want the hand grinder style check out Berlins on Rivers they sell new and used restaurant stuff and should have a hand grinder.

Throw premade into it or just old frames/bait etc and give it a mash or two every so often

I love my chum churn. I think I paid about $130.00 about 4 years ago from Boater’s World and still makes an incredible chum line and is easy to disassemble and clean.
