I use both depending on the fly and the use. I do alot of blind casting mainly because I do alot of warmwater flyfishing…Bass/striper etc where you cant see the fish. Plus circle hooks almost always set right in the corner of the Jaw. One Con for sure is if you sink one of those badboys in your neck its not going to be easy getting it out!

I am with you flyfishin… I haevn’t tried tying a circle hook fly yet either. Sounds like I will be at the bench this weekend. I don’t know about spoon flies, I still haven’t tried an epoxy fly yet but I have an idea for a shrimp and crab pattern. I’ll post pix when I get done. Tight lines y’all.

“Carpe Diem” does not mean “Fish of the Day”…

I use circle hooks 100% of the time when bait fishing, and they work like a champ. I tried some circle-hooked clousers one day last year, for the fall redfish bonanza, and went 0 for 4 on hook-ups. I like using J-hooks on flies because I enjoy sight fishing and truthfully- I really enjoy strip-striking the fish hard. I don’t think I’ve ever had a red “swallow” a fly, and cannot remember one being hooked back in the gills. Just my 2 cents, but I’d stick with the J’s
