Question about recreational clam harvest:
Can you use a rake?
I’ve seen a lot of posts about people using them but the DNR site says “It is unlawful to use scoops, scrapes tongs, or dredges to take shellfish without a permit”.
Do you read that as excluding rakes, and if so does the permit mean a commercial permit or just the saltwater recreational license?
Thanks! I really don’t want to pay $1000 fine for a half-bushel of clams.
Call my store or come by and I will teach you about clamming, even give you some good spots. Yes you can use a potato rake or clam basket. You only need a recreational lic. one five gallon bucket equal a half bushel. most of the time it is faster by hand

I have found clams while oystering. Just never knew what to do with them once I found them.
