Well after the long awaited arrival of S4G Jr. I get the well deserved kitchen pass to get after this SUPER HOT May dolphin bite…![]()
Well, after a catastrophic lower unit failure on the All Rise last week and a lot of crying to Yamaha she was not ready to sail on Sunday but my boy LnSMarine offered up his new to him 31 foot Sporty known as the Early Bird.
We pulled together a crew with short notice after some of our regulars ditched us for what they perceived as greener pastures. So Pallet (fresh out of the car from the Keys), LnS, myself, Over and Under left GT Marina at 5am.
The Early bird is well named cause if you are going to catch anything you got to get up EARLY! The boat is 12feet wide 31 foot long and we were able to run WOT all the way to just north of the hole!!! Only problem is WOT = 18knots. A little different than what we are use to. But it was a nice 3 plus hour nap for the crew.
Found a broken weed line in 350’ and deployed the spread. Got some quick knockdowns right off then it slowed a bit We never found a strong concentration of fish. Just picked at them most of the day.
Pulled in at 2:30 for the ride home.
Ended with:
5 Dolphin
1 Wahoo
1 Little Tunny (thanks gotcha, I would have called him a bonita)
Fishing and the boat ride:wink: was slow but I had a great time! Thanks guys!!
Highlights:
After 2 pulled hooks I jumped on the rod and Pallet took the wheel. He told me how to fight the fish and I told him how to drive the boat. It was not your team building kind of exercise. The rest of the crew stood in awe as the obscenities and insults flew back and forth between us.![]()
Watching LnS put on a gaffing seminar with a few perfect placed head shots
Letting our two greener (still lots of experience) crew members Over and Under single handily put 2 in the box. Over had two really nice gaff shot and Under maned the rod like a champ.
Catching the wahoo on LnS’s brand new planer rod setup!
