After a long winter/spring project I get the call from Pallet that the Split Decision is finally ready for splash down. Lots of blood, sweat, and money poured into her. New motors, glass work, Simrad electronics, etc.
Met up with the Clarendon boys at 5am to push off from the Georgetown Marina. Chunky Dunk, YellaBird, Holt-On, Charliehorse, Brianh and myself jumped aboard the All Rise, while Pallet, Ottis, Heywood, LnS Marine, and Mr. Split jumped on to the Splitdecsion. Months of trash talking and series dominated by team All Rise was on the line.
The title belt was up for grabs.
We followed team Splitdecsion to the end of the rocks then they dropped the new Yamaha F300s into hyperwarp and disappeared across the sun glistened horizon. Give them a head start they will need it.
Bout 6 miles out they radioed in that they found a small temp break and to come on in. Lines in and before we know it 4 blackfin are in the box. Worked around the fleet and team SplitD for a while as the bite seemed to slack off a bit. Headed south a bit and pretty much slowly picked at the fish the whole day.
Over the radio SplitD sounded like they were doing about the same. We were staying pretty much head to head in the count.** (more to come on this later)
Bout mid day Yella bird was itching to blow bubbles so we worked over to some bottom numbers and he prepared to go over board. While he was suiting up Chunky and BrianH worked the bottom rods to put some grouper in the boat. Chunky broke off a nice fish. Yellabird said, “don’t worry I will get him!”
Well about 30 mins later look what comes up on the lift bag! Hook still in his mouth!
Yellabird even sent me up a BIG lobster!
Got him back in the boat and ran back to the ledge to do try to catch a wahoo and complete the meat fish slam.
Found some more of these.
