Headed down south with bottom fishing allstar Phin on board in hopes of tackling some tuna fish and finding some snowy grouper. The ride out was nice from my stand point as i slept in the V birth. LnsMarine and Chunky drove up top and got soaking wet from the rain. Got to Phins bottom numbers and deployed the spread. It did not take long for the first hit as Chunky jumped on him. It was the begining of nonstop tuna action. The more we caught the harder the rain fell, the stiffer the wind blew, and the bigger the seas grew. By lunch time it was just plain miserable. But the fish kept coming in. Finally cut the day short as the crew was wet, green, and wore out. Found some good bottom spots but never made a drop.
First few fish were caught standing up, then came the fighting belt, finally rod holder and crank.
Chunky, Lns, and Phin ran the cockpit, I ran the bridge and Pallet held the wheel. We worked well and only had 1 major tangle that I take credit for. We made the most of our opportunites for a change.
Highlights:
Got to give credit to the SC tuna kings on the Full Pull. I bought some of their tuna rigs from Captain Ed and got some pro-tips from JW.
Watching Phin bring in a 31 pounder after a long fight.
No missed tuna gaff shots
Got to see a lit up stud Wahoo next to the boat that cut us off after he saw the gaff. He was VERY green coming to the boat, not sure what we could have done differently just fishing.
Two occassions had 4 fish on at once and boxed all 4.
Fish were hitting Captain Ed’s baits and our home grown Alcolu Aggitator. Caught a few on the LEHI sqwithces as well.
This would have been a great video. This fish started shaking and it was all Phin could do to hold him.
Way better than turkey on the table! That don’t look like a Contender…
The orignal plan was to take the contender and troll and LnSMarine’s boat and dive. Have 2 teams one trolling the other diving and divide up the catch but the forecast kept getting worse so we ditched the diving plans. Dealing with gear and boarding the boat gets to be a pain with the nasty stuff. Not to mention poor surface vis makes it hard to find a surfaced diver.

It sucked, thanks…home-owners get a little testy if you tell them they can have their new kitchen in time for Thanksgiving and haul ass to go fishing. For a minute there I almost thought about running it past them…I did have the stove and ovens working…On a side note: before you hear it from somewhere else, yes I was run up a tree last night by coyotes and no I couldnt get a shot on one.

Him let little puppies scare him?
I bet if you would have told the homeowners you had fresh tuna they would have re-thought it.

No problem Phin! Good to have you aboard. Hopefully you learned some new words and how to opperate the 4 fish on fire drill. Also very classy to offer Sellsfish part of your catch. We know he likes the bottom fish but maybe a taste of tuna will be good for him.
