Clarks Hill 4/17

Put in at 6:45 in Modoc and fished the GLR area. Caught 10 fish, 4 to 11#s. Caught 2 fish slow trolling freelines and the rest down fishing in 30’. All on live BBs. Back home and fish cleaned before 12:00.

Great job! Where is the GLR area? Never fished Clarks Hill but would like to start. Lake Murray gets too busy sometimes.

Thanks smoak. GLR is Georgia Little River. It is at the lower end, on the Georgia side. I fish Murray also but prefer Clarks Hill since I’ve caught several over 40#s from there. Never caught anything much over 20#s in Murray except up in the Saluda river.

reelthrill…if you ever want anyone to tag along with you let me know…i really want to learn how to striper fish but i’ve never been. i live in north augusta now and i grew up in beaufort. i hear that striper fishing is about as close as i will get to salt water fishing without making the trip home.

Easton, you have mail.

ps. I think there might be a few greenies in Clarks Hill

Nice day out! I have friends that are doing the dam in the late afternoon and arly evening that are doing pretty good. So it seems the season is starting.
I am goingto try more trolling this year as a locating tool, as well as try ells
Ever had any luck or tried ells?

Robert, been to Hartwell lately? Any luck?

If it smells like fresh fish, your’re in the right place
Mark.

Chris, never tried the eels but have heard of stripers being caught in SW with them. Might just work.

Mark, Have’nt been to Hartwell in about 2 years. Something about that “fish consumption advisory” that bothers me.

Last week, a friend and I put in at the 121 bridge(on the Saluda) and went upstream to the cutoff. We caught 10 fish, all 12 to 15#s. Most caught on the pearle Super Fluke(on a hook only) and a couple on a Rebel topwater. The river is really producing right now. Good (big)fish have been caught in the tailrace lately. You ever fish it or on down the river?

Hey Bob, I went to the cutoff Wed. and Thurs. last week and caught 15 Wed. and 4 Thurs…No keepers. We couldn’t buy any topwater action and caught all fish on the fluke with 3/8 oz jighead. I could’ve used your fish stretcher on a few of them. I’m going back up there when I get off this morning. Maybe I’ll have some of your luck this time.

Keith, hows it goin? Good to hear you’re out & about. ---- We fished late afternoon till almost dark. Other folks have been catching limits of 5 to 7#ers. Seems as though the fish in each run is consistant in weight. Who you fishing with?

A friend that I work with has been tagging along with me. He’s just learning about the thrill of striper fishing. He caught a 10#er a couple of weeks ago. He’s hooked! Call me sometime and we’ll hook up and go. 543-3351 or 993-2186. I work 3rd so I can go about any morning, afternoons are kinda bad for me.

Will do Keith. Headed to Charleston in a few to run offshore tomorrow. Got an open spot if you see this in time.(980-1026) May fish the Hill this weekend but gotta do a few things to the jon boat. The wind fri afternoon flipped it upside down in the driveway. Need some fiberglass repair to the motor cover. That or some duct tape. The good thing was I got to inspect the bottom and it looks OK.

Just an update for this morning. We caught 16 fish total and had 2 keepers of 6# and 9#. A great day on the river is any day. Can’t make the trip to the big water, I’ll have to catch you another day. Take care and tight lines.
