Got there at daybreak and fished until 3. Bite was really slow, but what we got was good quality with 4 27-31 inches, a 17 inch hybrid, and 3 pound channel. We saw some very brief schooling but could never get a bait in them. The biggest fish was fat and a healthy 12.15 pounds. 2 good fish came over the channel out from S3 fishing 60 feet over 100+. The others came in a 75 foot ditch near Monkey Islands fishing 40-70 feet down. Lots of short strikes and a couple of good ones came unbuttoned. Most hookups came while power reeling. Though it wasn’t fast and furious like August, it was still a nice outing.
I didn’t know it was called power reeling, but alot of the fish I catch on a spoon are when I do a fast steady retreive up through the fish instead of jigging. I learned to do that as a kid when jigging for blues and stripers back in the old country and it has always worked well for me on the lake too. I got 2 of 3 like that today.
Didn’t get any on the spoon. The fish never got under us thick enough for me to want to work the metal. I was power reeling the herring. What you mentioned can be very effective most anywhere.
