Cleaning Inside Center Console

Does anyone have any good methods for cleaning mildew, grime, etc. from inside of your center console? Seems like lightly spraying bleach and water in the area would do the trick but not sure of the negative effect on this with all the wires.

Pretty easy to keep clean if the inside is finished, plain old soap and water. If it is rough fiberglass, that is a little different. Bleach and water would certainly help but I would not get it on any wiring connections. One thing I have found helpful is to keep it empty when not being used. Don’t leave life jackets, safety gear bags, dock lines etc. in there while the boat is in storage.

Don’t spray bleach. Soap and water for most and then Mr. Clean for the really tough grime.

My primary boat cleaner for grime and mildew is a mixture of Oxalic acid, powder laundry detergent, and water in a squirt bottle. Gets everything clean.

I don’t like using liquid bleach either, that’s why I bought a jug of Oxalix acid and mix my own. I think it may be a little milder than straight bleach.

For rust stains, I use straight muriatic acid, and then flushed with water.

Don’t put bleach on those wires or control cables, not a good idea!
I use Orpine Boat soap, and their Wash and Wax. it’s excellent stuff, without the bad effects of bleach. All good marine supply stores carry it.

Wow… that’s clean right there! Can I bring mine to you??

In addition to not leaving wet gear in there try to leave the doors and hatches cracked open well enough for the space to breathe also.

Stump, I am a little OCD with boat cleanliness. My buddies love it when I go in theirs and give it the total clean treatment.

Regular household mold and mildew cleaner will get that stuff cleaned up nicely. Keeping it dry afterwards will prevent you from having to do it again.

Put one of those moisture absorbing cans in there while its clean and you will rarely ever have a mildew issue in the future . especially when its not in use and all closed up. we put 2 under the pontoon cover and the seats always look good.
