Do you all clean your wells out with anything other than fresh water? Been losing bait recently, Mostly shrimp. Water flo is fine, I have never used any detergents in there of any kind.
Thanks

I just flush out with fresh water…also make sure you run the pump and flush the lines before putting in the plug and starting to fill it up. The water that lays stagnant in your system can get really rank.

Cleaning products and bait don’t mix. Just use water. The heat is what gets my bait. I check the water temperature and add a bit of ice to the livewell if it doesn’t feel like cool water. Especially with shrimp. Bait need fresh moving cool water.

freeze bottles with water and throw them in the livewell as needed or use the ice packs that go in lunch boxes…

I assume you’re talking about baitshop-bought shrimp. Their filtered saltwater may not be the same as regular seawater. You can dump their shrimp into a half saltwater filled 5 gal bucket, let the shrimp get acclimated to this mixture 10 minutes, then put them in the livewell or float the shrimp bucket in seawater. Works for me. Come cold weather, the shrimp are going to lie still in the water, may as well use artificials, DOA’s.
Thank you for all of your info. I like the coler ice block idea. A lot of the srhimp are dying overnite when I have a trip in the am. eventhough I have a 115v aireator stone in the tank.
as far as cleaning all i use is baking soda to clean my bait tanks…and only do that when they start to stink bad…(once a year)
yes the frozen bottle should help alot for keeping bait overnite, cooler water has my oxygen,i do that up here when keeping herring overnite…
