Cleanup At Saluda Shoals Park

For anyone not familiar with the area, this park is just below the dam and got flooded during the spillway release.

They had to pick fish out of the trees once the water level subsided.

Hauled off some pretty big fish. At least, from the best I can tell, they all look like carp?

Talked to a buddy who helped do alot of burying of the dead fish. He estimated there to be around 4000# of dead fish (probably 85-90% were carp) . He said there were some stripers but nothing huge in size.

For whatever reason, carp love a spillway. As a boy we used to spear them as they would try and work their way towards the dam.

Wow!

All the grass carp in my pond went over my dam during the flood up here! Hope they made it to the next pond down stream!

I wonder if a lot of those grass carp washed out of Murray. Wouldn’t be a bad thing

I have had to restock mine after every real heavy rain, 4 time in the last 30 years! I have watched them swim over the dam and have caught them by hand and brought them back. There must be something in there DNA that causes the to follow the current I think my big gizzards also go! But not he large mouth and brem.
