Clear water gigging on 7/8/13

I took my girlfriend for her first two times of gigging over the last week and her first time buying a fishing license.

Are first adventure was last wednesday and as you can imagine the water was chocolate milk (some times you just cant resist the temptations of a trip). We didnt see any flounder over 8 inches and got to see one huge stingray over 4 feet. It was backed in a corner and didnt seem to happy about it. They are very quick by the way… No flounder on trip one but she had a good time looking around at the sea life.

Last night on monday the 8th was a different story. Once we got out the little creek the water turned the clearest i’ve seen it in charleston, so far. We walked around and could see 15 plus yards. Just a great night of floundering. She didnt scream to much. She did have a awful problem of I think being more interested in the shells than our mission at some points. But she did pretty good…

We didnt get a lot of flounder. But we did get to see alot of stuff. The night started with a nice flounder that “we” missed. But we got two nice 17 inchers. Stepped on a another two and 3 left us a cloud trail to say they had been here. So I was happy and she was happy.

I must say her high pitched “yay!!!” wasnt as cool as my friends high five. But it was still good to be able to bring her along and she enjoy it.

Sounds like an awesome trip with some nice fish
to boot.

Wicked fishing

What kind of lights do you use when walking the beach looking for flounder? Just curious and folks use different types and you said that with the clear water…and I assume. Light…you could see pretty well. Can’t blame a girl for wanting some pretty shells to take home for the memories ;). Flounder tails would smell on a shelf after a while

Penny,
Check out this website. There is another video of the lights put together. Just don’t make the mistake that I did. I ordered my lights off of Amazon. Free shipping and all. I did not realize that the lights were being shipped from China. I ordered them three weeks ago and I still don’t have them.

I will take some pictures of the light if I go out tonight.

The light is the ((flounderpro3 3-sides) its a 24 inch light with 3 sides of lights. It pulls 1.9 amps and produces 2000 lumens.

I made a PVC Pole with handle for it as well. It glides threw the water really well. Which matters after hours of sweeping and in a place with some current. I bought four for my kayak and take off one to walk with. I might be interested in selling one or two if anyone is interested. Bought to many for my application.

Thanks Wicked! It was. We are eating flounder and grits for dinner then off to try a new spot. Its kind slow and frusterating, but im making it. From Darlington, new to Charleston and limited by kayak. So its slow going with finding places you can wade and get to by kayak… Oh and find flounder

I made the same setup Goob. My friend bought a setup very similar to this and it is awesome! I havent tried mine since I tried it this winter in dirty ish water. I think im going to turn it into my “running” Spot lights when im kayaking unfamiliar areas and then some how be able to flip it around and I got a little spot light giging light off my bow.

What kinda light did you go with Goob? Could you find any LED 1000 lumen lights? That would be awesome!!

A plus to LED is you can shoot them underwater and when you get to shallow spots or in the grass. Pick them up and point them down and you will light up the entire area and whn you place them back in the water. Nothing blows. Awesome is what that is

Let me know of you do! Wish I wasn’t working tonight. Looks like we have tons of rain on the way again ;(. Of course when I am off for three days starting friday

Thats correct bud. We kayak to a place then wade and gig.

Directions; Where a belt. Tie kayak to that belt. Turn on light. Walk with the gig balanced over your shoulder and scan for the flounder with your light in the other hand. Spot flounder. Gig flounder. Drop light and string flounder. Pick up light and repeat as many times as God so Wills and with in State Regulations. Havent had to worry about the State limit thus far…

The light is shown below

impressive! where did you come up w that?

Whats your power source?

I attempted to send you a PM

We walked the area in front of Pitt street bridge for years and years with nothing but coleman lanterns and a gig. You can walk from the ICW, back down two or three docks before it gets soft. Use to do pretty well there.

The website fishinglightsetc.com has the Flounderpro3 3-sided for sale by itself or you can buy it with a pole like mine. I just bought the light and made a “similar” pole. Works well.

I use a 12V deepcyle battery
