Fished in the Kingfish classic and was excited to see such a good ocean. One small king around 8:00 and then no other bites, except a triple bsb on a ribbonfish rig. Saw the storm a coming when we were just South of the Chas 60. Seas went from bad to really bad in a few minutes. Made a call to Coast Guard (learned that from a previous post) to let them no our situation. We made it through, but it was a little dicey for a while. 19 Sea Pro did well and we never took a wave over the bow. Think I’ll buy an epirb for my next purchase.

We hit the storm about 12 miles out of Edisto. Seas went from 2 1/2 foot following sea to a 3 1/2 foot head sea, very close together in about 10 minutes. Not dangerous but uncomfortable since we left the curtains at home. 60 mph rains stings a little. We were in a 25’ Grady - next time we will not forget the curtains.

The epirb is a great idea. I bought one about 2 months ago after a few friends and I totaled a 27’ Contender in Gtown. Hit some unmarked dredge equipment at about 4am. Luckily we had a boat behind us give us a hand untill the coast guard could respond. No sense in not being prepared. I also purchased an automatic PFD just in case.

I highly recomend the epirb. No amount of money is too much if you ever end up needing it.
Here is a link where I got mine.

Just so everyone knows… you can buy a EPRIB for less than $600 that has a built in GPS. Yes that is less than a gas bill for two trips!!! Storms remind us that the ocean is not a lake and we owe it to our families to be prepared.
