CMC trim & tilt

I’m thinking about adding the CMC electric/hydraulic trim bracket on my 1987 16’ Lund with 45hp Merc. A new trim/tilt motor for it runs about $650.00, just for the motor & reservoir… I can get a complete CMC hydraulic bracket for around $600.00. I just wasn’t sure how the extra 45 lbs. on the back might affect my boat. It’s pretty balanced weight wise now. I don’t have a lot of room to redistribute things.
Anyone have experiences with the CMC bracket?

I don’t know about the newer ones, but the ones from about 15 years ago were bulletproof! The trim died on an old 120 hp Force a while back. We put on a CMC bracket, and it worked great for many years. No maintenance - no problems. They are made from aluminum, so the weight penalty is not too bad. You may see a slight performance improvement from moving the motor back, as the bow will lift a little. Turn radius will be slightly wider.

Also, my Son has a smaller CMC unit on his 25 hp. Suzuki. Been there for years. No issues. No maintenance. If they have not messed with the design, I can highly recommend the CMC brackets.

I install a CMC PT-130 in 2016 on a 14ft Hightide SuperV with a 2010 25hp Yamaha 4S Tiller. The CMC unit was very well made and very high quality. It installed easy and worked great. It made a huge difference with that motor- as it did not have tilt/trim. It also set the motor back a few inches which improved performance. If your boat has a steering cable- make sure you have enough play in it to move it back about 3 inches if you install the CMC. You dont want to install the CMC only to realize your steering cable will not reach.

I never even thought about the cables. I’ll have to check that in the morning. Thanks!

jpscott1, thanks for letting me know to check my cables. My throttle/shift cables would work, but I don’t think my steering cable will make it.

That cable tip is gold.
I put a CMC on my 165 Aquasport with a 50hp Johnson. That unit is overbuilt and works great.
Might be worth a new steering cable.

“No… it’s okay, I know the way out…”

Happy Bob- Glad I could be of assistance.
