Coal in my stocking this year

I had an interesting thing happen this morning. Was food shopping and standing in line at a market. The store only had 2 checkouts open and had maybe 10 people in each line. An employee walked by and I asked her if she could maybe open another line. She said sure I’ll open this one and pointed to one. A lady standing behind me broke into a run and started putting her stuff on the belt. I just couldn’t believe she did it. The lady that I asked just gave me a look and rolled her eyes. I said, an Excuse Me would be nice. She never looked at me! I said, well, tis the season. This lady was maybe in her 60’s and I said, maybe it’s how you were raised! She paid with some kind of Gold Card and said Thank You to the teller. I then said, Well she speaks English, I wonder if she understands it. The lady just walked away, never having looked at me. Do I get Coal for that?

Nope, I would have done the same thing and have done similar things. If I hold the door open for someone and they walk through and say nothing, I loudly say, “Thank you for letting me hold the door for you”. That usually gets the message across. I realize some folks may have a lot on their mind but, basic civility should not be too hard for folks.

It sounds like she was very rude, but since you asked, the better way to handle it would have been to just let it slide, per the Master. Don’t get me wrong. I’m not saying that I would have handled it any better than you did. I’m just saying that the Instruction Manual provides a better method. Let it slide. Don’t sweat the small stuff.

P.S., When I’m tempted to say something to someone like that, I ponder in my mind, “what if they have a gun and just got fired from the post office?”

Food for thought.

Lee; That was the Kinder Gentler me!

PS: I could of took her:smiley:

LOL. I hear you, Easy. Man, if we all acted like we FEEL like acting, there would be fist fights all over the place. I was raised by a German Shepherd, myself. Got to keep the collar on.

If you want to see rude with a capital “R”, go on vacation to Orlando sometime. It will either make you a lot less patient or a lot more forgiving. If you open the door for one person, 20 will go through as if you’re the hired doorman. The bigger cities are even worse, so when people from there come HERE, they think everyone’s so polite, but we who grew up here are seeing our local community get ruder and ruder. I’ve resolved to just expect rudeness in public, so when it happens, it’s not as big of a deal.

What would have been cool is if as soon as the teller started ringing you up and before the rude lady was gone…bells and whistles went off saying you were the 1 millionth customer and just won an ass load of money!

John

Not with my luck! I would have been like the guy in Florida, that let the old lady get in front of him to buy a lottery ticket. She won the Power Ball lottery! And I never heard of her giving that guy even a Thank You:smiley:

Ha, you hold the door open for someone in Miami and the whole family will walk through without acknowledging your existence! I don’t say anything to them, but I love letting it go at just the right time!!!

It’s the society we live in, manners have gone the way of individual thinking. My daughter who lives in Richmond was in over Thanksgiving. She was in the other room and I called her name she answered “Sir”. This from a woman in her thirties. I had forgotten how she was raised but she hadn’t. Made Dad swell with pride.

I only got hit a couple of time for forgetting my manners growing up. They cost nothing and show everything about being raised with respect for others. My children have not forgotten them either. My wife quite teaching in school and is keeping our grands and a couple more, you can bet they may not be forced to have manners at home, but here they sure do.

Nothing like good manners, and people call Southerners ignorant. I think they are just jealous. We’ve had this topic up a few times in the past, I love a good Southern respectful up bringing. Sir and Mam are way overlooked by many.
