Anyone see the Keep Out sign posted on the coal tipple…anyone know the story here?? Does it mean don’t go past the outer pilings or under the tipple or does it mean stay away from the outer pilings as well?? Thanks.
I could be wrong but it’s my understanding that as long as you’re not tied off to or somehow otherwise contacting their physical “property,” you’re good to go. They don’t own the water around their structure, just the structure itself.

Hmmm…good point about not being tied off to pilings…although I hope that’s not the case…I’ve had a lot of success with sheeps there and def need to be tied off.
I think that’s where they might get you because you are physically “on” their property at that point.

There was a thread not long ago about this. I believe the consensus was that they can prohibit tying off to the tipple, they cannot prohibit anchoring right up next to it and fishing.
“Apathy is the Glove into Which Evil Slips It’s Hand”, but really, who cares?
And even so, what are they really going to do about it? Send the cops out there? I doubt any officer in the Charleston area is going to respond to a call about someone tied to the coal tipple.
I think it is just the new owner posturing and limiting liability.
Tie off with some heavy mono! No one would see it and you could cut it quick if anyone shows up:wink:

Why chance it? Is a fish worth potential violations? Simply avoid tying off to their property and it won’t be an issue. No need to test their resolve or whether any LE would respond.
