Coast Guard Closing Section of Wando This Week

Tracy Kerr of Carolina Boatyard passed this along, thought I would pass it a little further.

The Coast Guard warns boaters to avoid a section of the Wando River as it conducts training this week.

The zone from Interstate 526 north to Horlbeck Creek will be enforced at the following times:

March 19-21 7-11:30 a.m. and 12:30-4:30 p.m.

March 22 7-11:30 a.m., 12:30-4:30 p.m. and 7-10 p.m.

March 23 7-11:30 a.m. and 12:30-3 p.m.

Coast Guard boats will use their blue lights and sirens during those periods, and all other vessels are prohibited from the area.

If necessary, however, mariners can request access by contacting the Federal Law Enforcement Training Center Safety Platform at “SAFETY 1” on VHF-FM channels 16 or 22A.

Anyone with questions should call Lt. Cmdr. Marcus Gherardi at 746-7955 between 7:30 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. After hours, contact the Port Charleston captain at 740-7050.

I saw a number of Coast Guard boats out there on Sunday.
