Coastal Conservation Association

How many of you are CCA members? Do you feel it really helps recreational fishing? Just wondering as I am not a member but have thought about joining. I wanted to get your take before I did. I realize it is not much money but have joined too many groups over the years that have not really seemed to do anything appreciable.

Thanks

I’ve been a CCA member for many years. Yes, they do help local recreational fishing. A good example is the oyster restoration project. CCA is a very good organization that does make a difference in our community. I encourage you to join.

Your money would be better spent in joining the RFA. CCA stood on the sidelines for a very long time, and did not bother to fight the most radical closures from the SAFMC, until their membership started suffering. They could have been there from the beginning, but did nothing. You will never see a CCA sticker on any of my vehicles. Do a little research on thehulltruth.com about CCA, you will be surprised

cca didn’t go to bat for the bottom dwellers, they are saving the heavy hitters for the bluewater trolling closure.
if your gonna suit up,then you better be prepared to get your ass in the game when called.Don’t stand on the sideline and plan on jumping in once the game is in the bag.

Participate by whatever means you can…CCA, FRA, RFA, whatever…
While the CCA did stand by with hands in their pockets for the most part, they eventually did come around.
Like sells said, get involved now. If we wait, it’ll be too late…

I agree…

Get involved in something!!! I help CCA and RFA!!!

I was a member(CCA) for 3 years or so until I got in the local chapter.
And seen how it was operating!!!
Now I’m a member of the (RFA) my money and my choice.

Reelone

can you expound some reelone?

I notice that there currently is no South Carolina chapter of the RFA. Does anyone know whether or not there are plans for such a chapter?

I love that I get under your skin…I chortle* to think that you have to post after me all the time…you are a joke.

i know…CCA has done so much to help the fight against closures…I guess i missed YOU and THEM at all the scoping meetings.

now run back to PN and post some drival on the CF page.

I’m a member of both CCA and RFA. They both have strong and weak points, IMHO, with a big net positive. But I’ll stay a member in both. Rec fisherman have to learn that the commercial fishing lobby is now and always has been eating our lunch. We spend 30 times what the commercial guys do and create many times more jobs and they still out-manuever us ($$$$) at the Legislature and in Congress. The rec fisherman gets run off so they commercial guys can harvest the fish.
Sad thing about it is when you get on here and try to drum up some interest for these organizations, people think you’re some kind of liberal, hippie, tree-hugging do-gooder. Join at least one of these orgs, or start working on your explanations to your grandchildren on why they can’t fish anymore.

Thanks Na, I don’t know enough about either organization to determine whether one is better than the other but, it seems to me if they are pro fishing then they must have some merit. Thanks for the input from all.
