I’ve been wanting to go cobia fishing for a while now, just not sure of what kind of setup I need. Hoping to get some recommendations on what kind of tackle, rig setup, and bait that I would need to get started. Do you just anchor out for them, bumb and go, or troll? Thanks guys.

Cobia like fresh bait but will hit a lure if hungry like a bucktail or even a topwater lure. When fishing the Broad River we use 20#+ tackle, wire stinger rigs and hook “greenies” in the head and tail so they don’t turn around in circles, place them on top in the middle and near the bottom on three rods for each person. Cobia will run hard and become still, then repeat run hard / still about 4 to 10 times before you get them close! Then prepare for the worse when you gaff one and throw it in the boat… best to do it right into a big cooler or fish locker. If you do troll, you want to be in the 2 knots or less.

Every cobia I’ve ever caught offshore - 70’ or deeper was packed full of whole octopus
There are some good videos on You Tube for set up of tackle
220 Outrage
250 Verado
