i just ordered a 10wt!! for the big boys this year.
I spent the weekend whilst hungover tying up some ep fiber minnows

This is the pinfish immitation… It was my first ep fiber minnow ever so be nice , trimmed it a little more after the picture but it looks pretty good, as I made them and read some I realized this one is a little bushy the others were tied much more sparsly. Ohh ya and I reversed the colors white on bottom. I figured that a longer one in blue and white would slay some schoolies, not sure about the cobia?? I have the tuffeleye kit coming and you can make some pretty BA minnow immataions with that thing should be fun to experiment. …Do I smell a bluewater/cobia fly swap???hmmmm

Yes, I know that one works… and it looks good, to boot!

How was the trip?

I been tyin like a fool, here’s a couple that i hope to throw at the cobes this year, and that pink and chartreuse one, toss it under a sargussum patch and its money in the bank for dolphin

i have had horrible luck with circle hooks for cobes, seem to throw hook easily, high quality jhook and good stripset far superior… in p.c. they would often gobble a bight orange and white half and half, tied with hackles splayed, on owner aki 4/0 hook and heavy (1/20oz) eyes… check your knots as they can be hell boatside!!!

yea that fly was intented more for kings, the take is so fast and the circle hook helps get it in the corner of the mouth. Good observation didn’t even think about that, wouldn’t want to ruin someone’s first experience with cobes.

This year is going to be epic.

FloridaBoy’s right to have an opinion on any subject on CF.com has been revoked until further notice. Carry on.

roger on circle hooks on flies, like them for faster hitting fishes (crevalles, albies etc)!!! have tried them for inhalation type feeders: reds, bones and poons with lousy results…you got a antifouling mono loop on eel?? if so any self respecting ling is in trouble

I appreciate you posting your experience with circle hooks on flies. Experience is the best teacher. Personally, I don't think I could ever develop enough nerve to leave a fly in a fishes mouth long enough for a circle hook to be needed. Ty

it sure helps a ton though dead driftin those big flies through rip lines, most of the time a poon, king, or big spottail will take it on the drift when there’s slack in the line and all you have to do is come tight, circle hook does the rest.
