Have you seen a Cobia this year?
I read that they can’t be kept outside three miles, after some time in June, due to a large harvest last year?

Assuming the Governor signed the bill, or chooses not to veto it, there will be no harvest during May in the special management zone in state waters from Jeremy Inlet south (mostly St. Helena, Port Royal, and Calibogue Sounds) during May. Feds are closing the fishery from 3 miles out on June 20th due to going over the annual catch limit last year.
Has anyone heard or seen any cobia on the near shore wrecks around Hilton Head yet?

Just saw this article a few minutes ago… My question as I fish out of edisto and leave out of the south edisto river is if I catch a cobia offshore out of state waters am allowed to keep one even though I am returning to a designated catch and release only area?
yes

Got this email from the SC DNR this morning…
quote:
Good afternoon,Last year, you and over 1,400 other anglers responded to a S.C. Department of Natural Resources survey about how you’d like to see the future of cobia managed in South Carolina. Thanks to your voice, DNR was able to make recommendations about how to protect this disappearing fish, and on April 29, Governor Nikki Haley signed into law a bill that will help rebuild the state’s cobia fishery. The new cobia regulations, effective immediately for the 2016 season, include a catch-and-release period in May and smaller bag and boat limits.
The new legislation will affect cobia in South Carolina state waters (<3 nautical miles offshore) south of Jeremy Inlet, Edisto Island (see map for details).
From May 1 to May 31, 2016, this cobia fishery will be limited to catch and release only. It will be unlawful to take and possess cobia from this area during the month of May.
Also under the new regulations, the possession of cobia in this area will be limited to one per person per day and no more than three per boat per day, with a 33-inch fork length size limit. Previously, the bag limit for cobia in this area was two fish per day, with no boat limit.

Thank you again for your participation and interest in protecting cobia for future generations of anglers.
