Cold 12/29

Fished 2 hours this morning at the rock wall. Passed schooling fish just before Herlong but decided to stay as planned and fish the shallow at the rock wall then fish the channel. Caught a 6# fish early in the shallow and missed a few more. Lines out @ 9:45 AM. Never had my bait net stay a frozen solid block the whole time I fished. Also never had ice accumulate on the line where it drug the surface. I’d reel in dime sized circles on the line when reeling them in. Saw a mass of fish in the middle of the channel but being solo with 9 rods out I didn’t stop. Time was running out or I may have reeled in and circled back to drop a couple DR’s to them. Fish caught came off Herring on freeline, middle of boat, 40’ of line out rod in the leaning post rod holder.

Good for you! One, for being out there in the frigid cold, and two, for being out there in the frigid cold. Glad you caught one.

I can’t put enough layers on to stay warm, unless I’m bundled up like the little brother on “A Christmas Story”.

I only have issues with 2 body parts being cold. Hands and toes. Yesterday I had on bottoms : Long Johns, Sweats, Academy brand Bibs, insulated waterproof socks and insulated duck boots… Top : long sleeve cotton shirt, hoodie, foul weather waterproof jacket (non insulated, wind breaker type). Had a beanie and a mask on. I have neoprene gloves but didn’t take off when I caught fish so they were full of slime afterwards. They stay dry but aren’t the warmest once you take them off the inside gets cold. If the wind doesn’t blow I’m good. And it didn’t blow yesterday.
