Was supposed to meet Richard and Troy at 8:00 this morning, I decided to stop and get some braid on my new Abu baitcaster so was running a couple minutes late. Richard was already on the water so I unloaded and was on the water in about 20 minutes. As I headed out I stood up and started polling and looking for some Redfish. As I was turning around I leaned over a bit too far and before I realized it I was in the water. As I was about to take a dunk in the water, it struck me that I would no longer be able to say that I had never fallen out of a kayak.
I was fishing out of the Pro Angler and it was floating beside me when I came up out of the water. The rod was still in my hand and so I set it up on the kayak again as I grabbed the side. I found that I could touch bottom and the water level was between waist and chest high. So as I stood up I attempted to jump back into the kayak from the side. As I put weight on my feet all I did was manage to do was pull the kayak over on top of me. So what started out as a simple problem now became a bit more complex. First thing on the agenda after getting the kayak back up right was to make sure all the tackle and rods and reels were back on board. I had several Shimano Stradics and a Curado that I manage to save. I had taken the time to look over and see if Richard had noticed my misfortune. He had seen the show and was in fact heading over to help me out. While we have had a couple warm days here in the low country the water was still a might chilly. It was time to get back in the kayak; I had found out that the side entry was not going to work so time for something different. I made my way to the front on the kayak and started to crawl over the front. After making my way back into the kayak Richard was on hand to help out and to gather a few parts of my gear that were floating about.
What I learned from the adventure; was to be prepared even if you just going out for a little short paddle and not very far, stuff happens when you least expect it.

I have just bought my first kayak and am looking forward to first time out. How do you secure spare rods. Stradics and Loomis are too dear to offer as structure.
RLS- Get a dry bag for your phone, fishing license, ext. I took a unexpected dip from my canoe with all of that in my pants pockets. Not my smartest move.
Man, I feel your pain. Check out the inshore discussion to see how my spill went this weekend. Just glad you’re Ok man, could have been a lot more serious, both our spills could have been local news. You can never be to careful in these things ya know? O well.
