I (like many of you) hang my feet over the side while fishing. Can any of you offer some advice on keeping my feet reasonably warm this time of year. Looking at neoprene “booties” right now. Is that the way to go? The idea of waders just doesn’t seem comfortable (or safe in a kayak), but maybe I’m wrong.
Is anyone aware of thin neoprene type “socks” that could be worn under my Tevas? THAT would be ideal if neoprene that thin is effective.
Wool socks with a goretex sock over them would probably work better than neoprene… neoprene socks will rot your feet off if you start sweating in them… goretex breathes and is better for your feet… waders aren’t dangerous if you wear a wading belt and if there isn’t a hard current… most people who die form their waders are river fishermen who fall and the waders keep them down because of the current. if you fall out of your yak it is much harder to get out of the water but when the fill whit water it will not drag you down due to extra weight… you weigh the same in the water, it’s trying to get out is where yo have issues. Waders are fine for yak fishing just make sure you wear your PFD while wearing waders especially in cold weather/water. I have the neoprene waders and wish I had the breathable ones…

I like these:

Get them a bit big and wear a thick wool sock, oh so toasty!

I seen him wearin 'em… Always looked toasty and didn’t come off while trudging through pluff on a low tide at the ville…

Those Chota boots are bad to the bone. It’s a shame the wife doesn’t understand why I want to spend more on flats boots than I do on church shoes.
I wear neoprene chest waders. It’s only a pain when I need to take a leak. nikonjedi is right tho, they won’t sink you, you bob like a cork. I’ve done wet reentry practice with waders on. They make climbing back on the yak more difficult.

wow the MUKLUK LIGHT’s look PERFECT for me. Are they pretty comfortable at the back of the knee bend while sitting with your legs over the side?
Nikon: Is the sweat a concern considering I’ll really only wear them from Late November thru the winter?
Thanks to everyone answering by the way. I’ve spent a lot of time thinking about this and just haven’t pulled the trigger, but last time I was out my feet were quite chilly and even “crampy” when I got back to the landing from being cold for so long. So crampy in fact that I felt it would be a safety issue if something were to happen. This is my excuse for my wife. Pretty good huh?
If you are sitting down and not walking a lot it’s not an issue… I like to hop out and wade the flats and if I do a lot of walking my feet will get a little sweaty, pluff mud and water are the best cardio work out I know of
, but not too bad… I like my neo waders, nice and warm just a little snug right now
I just liek the breatheable ones becasue it’s just easier to get boots on and off and they take up less room in the truck and take a little longer to dry out…

I wear polypro over the calf sock liners with poly/wool blend socks. Feet stay warm and toasty, even if the waders leak a little.
