Columbia Area

Hey, I’ve been on the site a while, but I’ve recently picked up fly fishing. I live in the Columbia area, for now at least, and was hoping I could tag along with someone. A friend of mine took me to Saluda Shoals park. I know trout unlimited has a section up river from there. I’m not asking for secret spots, just a little direction. Any help would be appreciated.

search the SC forum, might find some help there.

It is no secret… If you want & like to fly fish, live in Columbia, you should visit one of the Saluda River Trout Unlimited meetings. It is a good group, many fish for stripers and smallmouth.(local) Google them, all info is on their web site. I have moved away from the area, but still fish with them many times a year.

Go ahead make a good cast.

A lot of bass right there in the Broad, both brown and striped. Plus there are plenty of places to wade. Clousers work well anytime as well as poppers in the summer.

Fish is a 4-letter word…

Right now Columbia has the best fly fishing in the state, if you can get the water levels co-operate. Columbia is a great place to fly fish!

I always catch fish in Columbia trout fishing is great this time of year. Was up there a few weeks ago and caught 8 even with the dam pumping

For local gear and perhaps local info, including local NC water, Google … Fly South . Johnny sells fly fishing gear, and has been for over 10 years. He is a great Columbia source, believe what he says.

Thank you all very much.

i all ways had good luck at the ramp off of Corley mill, if you walk up a ways you will see a tree house, and i don’t mean a kids tree house, this is a little house in the trees. real sweet spot under it. it’s a wade-able area had great luck there with trout( try to get permission first to walk there property they put some big ugly red signs up) i talked to a guy on a tractor he was real nice and let me fish on last time i went. also i use to park by the old circuit city on bush river and walked behind it and i found a path that brings you to the river under the highway bridge right there i’ve caught strippers in late summer and trout there both on the fly and spin. best of all that ice cold water sure does feel nice in the summer! gl have fun
