Hello, This is my first post here. My wife and I are moving to Charleston in June for atleast one year. We currently live in Jacksonville Beach, Fl. I mostly fish the creeks and backwater around here and venture out to the ocean for Cobia, Triple Tail and Tarpon depending on the time of year. I look forward to exploring some new water while I am up there and I am sure I will see some of you guys at the bait stores and boat ramps.
A couple quick questions for a newby to the area:
Here in NE Fla, a Flood Tide is anything above a 5.4 and if there is any West in the wind, its more like a 5.8 for the flats to flood. What is usually the lowest high tide that the grass flats will flood up there?
If any of you know of a house to rent in the James Island or anything with farely ease access to Folly Beach and MUSC, let me know. Its just my wife and I, but we have two dogs and a 16ft Boat. Looking for something like a 3-2 with a carport or garage.
If any of you guys are down in the Jacksonville Area between now and June, the Reds are on fire in the creeks, the Trout are biting in the ICW, the Sheepshead are spawning in the Mayport area and around the rocks, there have been Triple Tail sitings on the crab buoys off the beach and the Cobia will be here when the Hibiscus start blooming. Hit me up and we can go out.
Woops. This probably should have gone into the Discussion section. Feel free to haze me for being a Gilligan right off the bat.
This should surely earn you a pass! Welcome to the area. Most flats in this area flood right around 6ft, although some will have enough water on them for tailing reds at somewhat lower tides. Best of luck!

Welcome to the site, and the area. I took a two year detour down in Ormond Beach a while back, but very thankful I moved here over 10 years ago.
Wish I could be more help, but I do know that I have some flats that flood on a 5.1. I really enjoy having those flats because I get to wade a lot more. You just have to find them!!! Good luck and hope to see you on the water.

Layton,
Welcome to the site and to the area!! If you live on James Island, with three public boat landings nearby, you’ll have easy access to both the back waters and the harbor. You should be able to get out to the jetties as well, on a calm day. I don’t know of any properties for you, but there probably are plenty of them that would suite you needs. Good luck and if have any more questions, just ask! You’re sure to get lots of opinions!
Welcome to the site. You will love it here. My main client is in Jax, so I go the other way quite a lot! Usually stay on Jax Beach and sometimes bring a yak down. I’ve even caught a few trout at the Beach Blvd boat ramp from shore Your fishing options here are endless, very much like Jax but you have a whole lot more water here!
In reference to the flood tides, it is going to depend on the flat, the flats I fish are perfect with a 6.0 to a 6.5, I hear there are 5.5 flats here too but I don’t know of any.
As to the boat landings sea tonic didn’t lead you astray.
Rent on Folly Rd is hit and miss as new places and signs are hung up everyday, but you should be able to find something in the James Island area.
Again welcome to the site

Thanks a lot guys for the welcome and the info. I look forward to getting up there.
Optiker, I live 5 minutes from the Beach Blvd ramp and I will show you where the spot is to slam the trout from shore while your down. Its all about incoming tide. Caught a couple on Fly the other night. I will need you to sign a CA, but I will show you haha.
We am coming up on March 15 to look for a place. Hopefully there is a nice 3-2 on about an acre with a deep water access dock and a Tiki Bar/Firepit situation for around $1500 per. Haha.
PS If there is, Forum Happy Hour my place on June 15th.
Yeah, I know John. I used to fish the Jax Kayak Fishing Tourney every year and I go on the jaxkayakfishing.com every day for tides and weather. I think he is the mayor of that site and its forum. I am about to sell my kayak since we are moving. Need to downsize and I can’t take my wife to the Sandbar on a one seater yak…
I do not know about the tides (live in Savannah) but when my son got his Masters from MUSC and had our dog, they love the dog park in James Island. It is about the best dog park we have been to.

James Island dog park is pretty awesome but don’t forget about Sullivan’s Island. On Sullivan’s Island dogs are allowed off leash from 6 am to 10 am in the summer/spring and until 12 pm in the winter. There are dogs everywhere and it is a blast.
Duke and I would like to thank all of you for the advice and we look forward to coming…
