I have a 17ft Mako and am looking to go fishing this thursday. Ive been thinking about putting in on the north end of IOP and going out Dewees to Capers reef. What would be good to fish for this time of year for the sport and good eating. Also what baits and rigs to use? Ive read about Dewees inlet and Ive always been good at navigating shallow areas and have checked Tide tables. Currently the weather isnt looking great for Thurs but Im hoping that the bad stuff will be pushed back by a day. Thanks in advance!
Capers Reef is just a few miles straight out from Dewees Inlet. I would probably start there.

I thought I would have gotten more replies. In short, great trip, we caught alot of Blacktips which made for great fighting for family and a good dinner. The inlet is easy and I could do that in my sailboat, even at low tide.
One idea that you might enjoy is to put in at the jetties and let her drift all the way to Dewes inlet. Fish 2 hook bottom rigs with enough weight stay on the bottom. Cut shrimp or squid on small hooks. Did this once and filled the boat with spots, whiting and sharks - with a few flounder and chopper blues.
