Trolled over Commanche yesterday, few other folks out there bottom fishing. Didn’t want to get in their way so we kind of strayed away from the reef and it seemed to work cause we ended up with 4 Kings, 2 Mahi and and AJ. Missed 3 BIG fish (I’m guessing Big Kings)due to bent treble hooks and one busted stinger. I won’t be buying those rigs anymore. Also lost a couple nice Cow Mahi on a bad hook up and a missed gaff. ROOKIES! Finished the day at the 60 by putting a nice 28 inch Black Grouper in the boat. Great day with great friends.

We’ll Henry, when I first hooked up and had him to the top, we kept him in the water while we checked the ID chart. I’m one for making sure the fish is legal in all aspects and if not, to release it unharmed. But, when we got him up there, he had the rings like the Black and everyone on the boat agreed. So we checked the limit and the Gag and Black are the same. But really looking at the picture with chart in hand, your right. Either way, Balck or Gag, he’ll eat good…Thanks

It’s nice seeing the Flyboys back on the east coast side of the world enjoying a day on the ocean. For those of you that don’t know it, this guys are normally protecting our arses over in the sand. Just wondering about the grouper, what were you using, and about where on the 60 were you when you got it. I was out there last weekend and hooked up on a nice dolphin. Hard to imagine but they are in that close now. by the way I’m retired Air Force, good on you for keeping the faith.

Thanks to MeTo and Top2, we were over the barg fishing cigar minnows on a bottom rig, missed, I’m guessing 2 others. Seemed like we were right over some kind of hole in the barg, cause the 2 we lost, we could tell they ran underneath, or, in the piece of structure, lost the rigs and the fish. The one I got though, as soon as he hit I just horsed him up to stay out of the hole. Hope this helps. Congrats on the Mahi that close. A welcome surprise I’m sure…
