Company trip, offshore charter, suggestions?

I work at a modest sized cabinet manufacturing facility, and our shop owner was talking about doing a company trip.

My guess is that there would be 6 guys coming.

None of us are experienced in the least at offshore fishing, except I’ve caught a few decent gags on headboats (ie, no trolling experience).

We’re not sure about the typical charter options out there, or the rates, or the fish targeted, or the seasons.

If we were going to do a half day trip, and were more interested on having fun and bringing home good eating rather than chasing a trophy, what are the best suggestions?

FWIW I’m personally partial to targeting king mackeral, cobia, and wahoo, but I’m not sure if that’s something that can be predictably productive.

Suggestions appreciated. Thanks!

Teaser 2 with MArk Brown. Don’t look any further.

Yep, Fritz is correct especially if you think there may be more than 6. There are many other options though if you are sticking with 6 or less.

experience noun \ik-#712;spir–#601;n(t)s

  1. the fact or state of having been affected by or gained knowledge through direct observation or participation

  2. that thing you get just moments after you needed it.

The Teaser is a great option, but give Robert Olsen a call, too. Knot @ Work Charters. He may be able to do something for you. Either trip with Mark or Robert will leave your coolers full and your arms aching!

OK I am thankful for the “Who” answers, but I’m asking “What/When” as well. I will put Teaser 2 on the list though, thanks!

When is a good time if you’re booking a trip, and you’re after “fun and good eating” rather than trophy and catch/release only?

I know dolphin are a favorite around here, and I’m all for it, but I’d personally like to also have a shot at something like kings, wahoo, or cobia.

Fished several times with Mark in the past. First class treatment and fishing. Also, he is our representative on the South Atlantic Marine Fisheries Council, and has spent hundreds of hours working for fishermen. Soft- spoken very knowledgable guy. You would have a fine time, even if you don’t know squat about fishing.

If it were me I would shoot for May or early June. I’m sure if you called the captain would be glad to share his opinion. Also, check out the Knot@Work Facebook page… I think that may convince you securing his services… especially if you want to catch a king
