Good Luck! It’s muddy as *ell and over-running the banks…
I crossed the river this afternoon around 4:30.The water has gone down a little, but it’s still kinda high. the color is looking better.
Went fishing last Saturday and caught three. Two keepers, 7 and 13lbs. also caught several cats.
If the wind dies down some, i’m going sunday morning. Its gonna be kinda cold…38 degrees[:0]
GOOD LUCK !!!

Yeah, the river was way up and it was windy so I opted for some yardwork to buy me some time later this week after work. We’ll see! It’s time for sure!

How did ya’ll guys do with the stripers in the congaree this past weekend. I’m heading down there on saturday and sunday to fish from the bank. Any suggestions on lures and locations would be greatly appreciated
We were at the sandbar drinkin last sunday, lots of fishermen but didn’t see any fish, the river dropped at least 2 feet between 4:00 and 7:00, looked like alot of guys were using artificials such as creek chubs or striper swipers.

We put in at Old State and went up to the locks, but didn’t have a hit. We were only up there for 2 hours though with cut bait. The water was high, and when we got back to the jeep it had been broken into and I lost two things with value that would have made me give them my jeep and boat in return for what they took. Worst night on the river for me ever. I have a feeling as for the fish you might want to look higher up near the Zoo. Anyhow I am off Friday…anyone want to go? God Bless, Brian

Sorry to hear about getting broke into, that landing has always had that problem. Went today in the morning, caught catfish only, the guy right upriver from me limited out with some nice stripers. yesterday evening my daughter caught her first fish, 26" striper, I think she’s hooked!
I have found wading the shaols on the downriver sied of the Gervais Street Bridge, opposite the Vista to be the best place. Cold water from the Saluda and Broad combine with warm water from the canal, and forms a rip. I cast a Deceiver or Clouser cross current and let it ride down to the rip, then return up the rip line.
I found the hours of Dusk to about 11:00 P.M. most productive. (Of course, that is the time I could usually get off of work, so…) Used to park at the restaurant parking lot, but since they opened the new river side park there.
Of course, all this requires water levels low enough to wade properly. Last trip I almost slipped and made a trip down river to Santee Cooper.
One final caveat…All this information is 3 years old… Still should be a productive area.
19"-27" Striper on s 7 weight flyrod… What a rush… 27" on a 5 weight, priceless!

Those who can’t fish, spend too much!
Coach B, try parking at barny jordon or “rosewood landing”, the GW’s frequent it much more than old state.

Its on the opposite side of the river about a mile and a half above old state.

Oh yeah up just before the locks…I thought you meant there was one I didn’t know about. I know about that one. Do you know if there is a way to get above the locks? I have a little Bass Tracker with a 25hp and I want to drive up and fish closer to the bridges. Thanks Brian

A 25 might be pushin it but with the extra water being in the river latley its worth a try, I’ve seen 25’s as far as the zoo before!!

Do you know if there is a certain path most folks take getting up and avoiding the rocks and locks? Thanks anything helps

I sure don’t man, I wish I could help more, but I do most of my striper fishing in the lower saluda from I-20 to the Dam during the summer months.

I fished the Congaree around the bridges last Sunday evening-no hookups & didn’t see a single fish caught. According to one of the guys at Barron’s today most of the fish caught so far have been females & the males haven’t made it up yet. That is strange-the males usually run ahead of the females; also it’s time for them to spawn.
As far as heading upriver with a 25HP motor, that is no problem. As a matter of fact it is an ideal size motor for the river as it is lighter. To go above the locks, just head through the two big walls on the Cayce side. Keep to the left until you get about halfway between the tressle & Blossom Street Bridge. At that point the 'channel" (if you could call it that)snakes across to the right & goes under Blossom Street right next to the bank.
If the water is up it is not much of a problem to go all the way to Gervais Street, but when the water is down you should use caution, go slowly & trim your motor up as high as possible. It’s probably best to go with someone familiar with the rocks the first time.
Hey thanks I’ll have to try that. This Friday I went on up to the Lake and mainly fished Yacht Cove in the late afternoon. I caught a few small fish, but then hooked one nice 6.4lbs Large Mouth that had just laid her eggs. That’s only the second biggest large mouth I have ever caught…funny thing is I caught both my big large mouth while striper fishing…the biggest came off that old wooden dock on the west Columbia side of the lower Saluda just below the zoo. The one I got there was on the last cast of the day and went 7.8lbs. Ya’ll have a great week and save a few for us other fellas. God Bless, Brian

There are some really big bass that swim the Saluda, but very few people fish for them (I guess that’s why they get so big). Most are caught accidentally by striper fishermen-two of my friends have caught seven pounders while striper fishing, and a long time ago I saw a fella pull up a stringer with one that had to be every bit of ten pounds.
There are a lot of big bream in that river too (and even some crappie).
Shhhhhh…
