Just wanted to know if anyone is catching any stripers in the Congaree yet. I was thinking about foot fishing by the Gervais Street bridge but didn’t want to waste my time if they weren’t up the river that far yet.
I was wondering the same thing. The color is looking a little better now. They were up in the wateree river over a month ago. I would think that they would be up the congaree by now.
Is there anywhere to get bait near Garvais Street, I may try it out after work tomorrow.
You can get bait at the Tackle Shop on 743 Meeting St. just a little past the Gervais St. bridge. I believe they are open until 7:00 pm and have live herring. I fished down by the bridge yesterday evening and saw only one boat which left shortly. I didn’t see any schooling stripers and didn’t have any bites. The river is still pretty high and tough to wade in at this time.
jackfish, it sure is nice being back on the coast but i sincerely miss striper adventures up around there. please keep me posted on yer foot fishin
might as well be dead up here if i cant find that live bottom
I have heard that they are down around 601. But the water has been high and muddy. If they are not here yet, they will be soon. I heard that they show up about the same time as the dogwood trees start to bloom, and they are just about to bloom. I am going to try catching one on the flyrod this year. I have a spot where they come up out of the rapids right at sunset. Seems like a perfect spot for swinging a clouser.
jackfish, have you had any luck with the stripeys recently, bsbready told me you might be coming to charleston this weekend. We might go out bottom fishing if the seas look good or we will go for redfish.

I headed out to the Gervais Street bridge yesterday evening and the stripers are still not there. Triple Tail, I haven’t gotten into them yet. They should be arriving shortly. Has anyone had any luck yet in the Congaree? I have heard reports of a few sporadic catches of striper but not much action.
They were letting some water go today. When I crossed over 77 it was high. Hopefully that draws them up. Last weekend I saw some birds working over some bait just above Garvais, so maybe the striper will follow. The full moon is April 2nd, I thought they usually spawn then.
There are not stripers in the Lake to come up the river. It is over
There were not fish there at this time last year. There are not as many in the lake, but there are some left.
I heard there were a lot less caught in the lake this year and that it was going to be a tough year in the river. There is an article in South Carolina Sportsman this month discussing possibly closing the season on striper next year from June 1 to October 1 in the Saluda River.
Jackfish, you should head up to clemson one weekend and fish Hartwell, there ae a good amount of striper in Hartwell, especially around the dam.
I was talking with bsbready, and I think we are going to fish the cobia tournament in Beaufort on May 5th, you in?

Triple Tail, I would like to fish Hartwell for striper but never have. As for the cobia tournament I would love to join y’all’s team. Thanks for the invite.
Did anyone have a report from the Congaree before this cold weather. How long before they get back to normal after the cold air. Thanks
