Headed out this afternoon to see if reports of fish starting to move up are true. Anyone else heard they were here? Will report back this afternoon.
It should be about peak for the congaree. I would look for them spawning in the gravel under/below Gervais St bridge

And…
got on the water about 430 and came off around 630. ended up with 15 sizes from 10" to this 23". This was my first time ever in the Congaree and it was a blast. i must say these fish were a different breed than the ones in the lake…lol…even the 10 and 12" fish fought decent and had some shoulders on them…looking forward to some more trips after work real soon…
A buudy from work has been going out the past few mornings after his third shift and has been slaying them below the I-77 bridge. Most have been in the 20"-23" range. He showed me a picture of a nice 27 incher he caught this morning.

Bob, you need to get that boat wet
Yeah, I know. I’m hoping to finish up a side job tomorrow(for your neighbor, Chip). Maybe I can head out Saturday or Sunday for a while.

How are you fishing for them on the river. I haven’t fished for them on the river except behind zoo back in the day. Used to catch big ones there 5 years or so ago. how deep is that part of river. can you run a decent size boat? using artificials? or live bait? I might want to try this one day soon.

It’s pretty shallow down that way if you are considering Rosewood or the Cayce landing. Personally, I wouldn’t even think about it if you are talking about your Wellcraft…especially since you are unfamiliar with the river down that way. If the water is up a bit, you “might” be able to put in in at Rosewood and make your way up near the lock just below the Blossom St bridge and catch some fish, but definately not worth the risk IMO.
Glad to see you got the boat running. So what did it turn out to be that was causing your fuel issues?

The big boat was the one with problems. It was gunky gas. We got it straightened out. How’s the river down at I77? I wouldn’t take the wellcraft
I would take the jon boat.

You would be fine in a jon boat. I’ve heard it is good fishing just above 77 (the poop plant discharge). Probably not the best smelling spot to fish though
Anyone been catching any up around the Gervais Street bridge? or do you think it’s too early still for them to be up that way.

catching them at the lock so i don’t know why they wouldn’t be up another 500/1000yrds or so. seen boats run on up after we stopped at the locks.
I talked to some guy the other day at the dam. He said he got a 27#er there last week
Murray side of dam or in the river?
I talked to him at the dam launch/park. He caught the fish at Gervais
