Connect your Yamaha to your NMEA 2000 GPS

I just did this on my boat. I have a 2014 200 HP Yamaha inline 4 and a Garmin. All you need is the Lowrance engine interface cable and a NMEA network. You connect it directly to your Garmin, Raymarine, Simrad, Lowrance GPS that is NMEA 2000 compliant. Works great. You get all the engine data for $150 instead of $500 in Yamaha parts. I did not need power cable. You need the power cable if you have a device in the NMEA network that does not have it’s own power. I have just two T connectors, the engine cable and a cable to my Garmin. Yamaha engines after 2006 put the data out in NMEA 2000. Any brand GPS that’s NMEA 2000 compliant will work. I was also able to add my Fusion radio to this network. I can control the radio and get radio data on my Garmin (including song/artist) info.

Been thinking about doing that on mine. I have a 2010 Yamaha 70 4 stroke and a Garmin 74sv.

Looks pretty sweet.

Dang ole early 2006 carbureted vmax’s are not supported in this format… ask me how I know lol

The Lowrance 0120-37 does not work for this setup. At least, there’s no connection in the engine for the 4pin connector. The hub doesn’t have an open port so an additional hub is required (per Yamaha).

That is a digital shift motor.
that little white cap on the bus bar can be removed and you can plug into that port to get you info. not sure if its the same plug, but the info is there.

Yes, same 4pin connection. My system is wired differently than the diagram I posted; all three device ports are occupied - one each for tach & fuel gauges, and third runs to throttle (which is different from the above linked diagram).

I’ve just ordered the cable. Question, 2016 F150XB will I get water temp or do I need to add a sensor? Assuming I will as the current command link reads in “bars” but the actual temp would be great!

Thanks

THAT MOTOR DOES READ COOLING TEMP, SO THE INFO IS THERE

You said “Yamaha engines after 2006”. So – would my old 2006 F115 be able to spit out this data ?
