Is there a way to connect an older Yamaha 2 stroke (1999) to the network? Surely someone makes some sort of interface…I would love to abandon my gauges and use my electronics for instrumentation.
nothing to interface
that engine does not have anything on it that NMEA2000 can read

I figured there would be at least some way to use my Simrad to monitor RPM’s at the very least…I’m amazed something doesn’t exist.

No, nothing does. That’s why God made analog tachometers:smiley:

The goal is a clean console…guess I don’t have a choice though.

How about for 2001 year engines?
DOESNT MATTER THE YEAR
CARBED MOTORS DO NOT HAVE ANYTHING ON THEM THAT SPEAKS NMEA2000
NOW, THATS NOT TO SAY THERE ISNT SOME KIND OF ADAPTER THAT WILL CHANGE AN ANALOG TACH SIGNAL TO A NMEA2000 SIGNAL.

Warning: the following post is 100% speculation
I would be surprised if there wsan’t some sort of NMEA2000 compatible pickups/sensors for things like engine RPM, fuel flow, temperature, voltage, etc. Might be worth a little research (or it might not exist at all). Anyway, let us know what you find!

This is exactly what I’ve been asking!!!
Surely something exists that can take the same signal an analog tach takes as an input, and turn it into something the NMEA can pick up and translate to a tach signal on my electronics!
I’ve been reading for days with no results to show for it, hence this post. Think I’ll post on thehulltruth also…

I agree, surely there has to be something. Im looking for the same type of interface for my carbed volvo-penta inboards of the same year (1999). even though our motors are carbed, we still have a sensor wire reading RPMs, water temp, voltage, and other basic motor sensors.
Are you looking for something like this (no experience with it, just a quickie search):

Yes… but @ $320…it’s not very feasible, lol. That’s the only one I ever found when I searched as well…

that actually sounds like it would work for what i want. i cant believe i didnt see that when i was searching. might have been because i was looking for a volvo penta specific module.

Looks like it does everything I was looking for. Wish I could justify it.
I also found this one…

I don’t want to change the post but how about if you have a NEMA 2000 engine (08 Yamaha) and a NEMA 1083 depth sounder. Will this work?
