Wife and I are about to undertake a large scale remodel of a home downtown (outside of BAR jurisdiction thankfully) and are looking for recommendations for contractors capable of handling this. Just to be clear, this a to the studs remodel, all new systems, and some poorly done additions to be torn off and a new one added. Figured this site might be a good place to begin. As a side note, I’m also looking for a good inspector to check out the foundation of this house before we begin so a recommendation for that would also be appreciated. Thanks in advance.
You need to start with Flatscaster. He will get you going in the right direction. Luke is good people and is honest.
Good luck with the undertaking…it’ll test your sanity for sure!

Keywest15 - You can call Harper j Finucan. He does a lot of renovations and remodels all over the peninsula of Charleston. If the job is too big for him maybe he can point you in right direction.
If you can’t find a number for him shoot me an email or text and I may be able to find it for you.

I would recommend someone that works downtown on a regular basis. There are a lot of logistics involved in working down there including knowing how to work with the city whe it comes to permits and inspections. “On a fishin mission” on this site has worked down there quite a bit. Some other contractors is see work downtown all the time are Palmetto Craftsmen, Tupper Builders, H. J. Finucan (mentioned above)

Agreed with Apickett here. I’m not a contractor, I’m just one of the mechs at a cabinet shop. However, I see enough of the nature of working in Downtown to know that it is an education all by itself. Do not hire someone who’s not well experienced working in downtown, and check their references. The project you are describing is the sort that could end in lawsuit galore if you get someone who’s a half-wit or irresponsible.
