Great friend and his 14 yo son joined the crew for the sons first trip offshore. We were fraternity brothers at Wofford and roomed together for a couple of years after graduation. Used to fish out st the jetties together in my 15ft 70s era Renkin trihull. Kind of lost touch until recently and have not fished together in 20 years. Had my father and son on board and a couple of friends as well.
The 2 foot seas forecasted looked more like 4 ft to me for most of the day. Fishing was tough, and the warm water pretty far out. The western edge of a big eddy around the 226 was the only place that looked promising to me so that’s where we headed. Weeds were scattered but formed into sort of a line later in the day and the bite picked up a bit. Picked at em and ended up with 9, most small gaffers. Missed a lot of strikes that I assume were smaller fish. Fished seemed less aggressive than usual, lots of times following the baits and teasers, and we did better when we slowed way down. Had a nice wahoo on that bit through the mono. Downrigger was a player today with the wahoo and bigger dolphin hitting it. Glad we kept it in even though it was a pain with all the scattered weeds. Best part of the day was having our two sons fishing with us after all those years fishing together. Everyone has reasons they fish. Family and friends is what our boat is all about, so even though the fishing wasn’t great it was still a great day.
Since I know someone will point this out, the app used to decrease pixel size cut off a few of the fish. I am capable of counting to 9.
