Cooler / Casting Platform Tie-down Option

I found this product and figured I’d pass it along.

I want to run my cooler on the bow of the boat as a casting platform, and to free up some room in the cockpit. I did not, however, want to have some big stainless brackets on the bow that say Yeti on them to get in the way when the cooler is not on the boat.

Basically it’s a bolt that has had the head and shank drilled and tapped to accept another bolt, or in this case a cooler tie down.

Combined with these:

Should make for a great system.

Buddy; ever think of the pop-up cleats? They would also work as extra tie down points…Just sayin!:sunglasses:

I like it. $8, can’t beat it if it works.

I have the first gen version of those. Can you access under the mounting point?

In my case, yes I can. I plan on running a large fender washer on there as well. I also have the luxury of being perfectly spaced to go through some fore/aft running glass stringers in my front casting platform.

Just a note, as I emailed to ask, the threaded hole is not a through-hole to whatever is behind it. It is a blind hole. It will collect a bit of water, but the grade of stainless should make it no big deal.

Here’s a thread on the whole tie-down purchase and installation that I went through a couple years ago. Capt. Larry installed the tie-downs and a fantastic job.

These have been great and I am extremely happy with them.

Further down the thread there’s a pic of the cooler installed with some cheap straps I picked up somewhere to get started. After looking all over locally without success, I found some online that are much better and stronger. The web site for those is www.strapworks.com. They are fantastic online store, have a huge variety, great prices and super fast delivery.
