Cooler Seat to Leaning Post conversion

I’m somewhat new to the area. I’ve got a 2002 Sea Pro SV1900. I’m looking to replace the cooler seat with a leaning post. Has anyone done this themselves or used a local shop? Looking for a little direction. Thanks

Check out Happy Bob on this site he make them to your specs! His shop is around Col. Seen some of his work< Jam up!!!

Leaning posts are the best, but, pricey. My Wellcraft 210ccf came with captains chairs and I hated them. I finally got off the money and got one from some place off of highway 78 that makes leaning posts for a bunch of manufacturers in the area. Can’t remember the name of the place. Got a deal on it but I’m still $800 in it. In the end it was WELL worth it.

I did it myself on a 2004 Sea Pro 190CC…afterwords wondered why it took me so long to do it. I had to cut the cooler seat bolts with a sawzall then fill the holes in with Marine Tex. Then lag bolted the leaning post in. Overall it wasn’t that hard and a great upgrade.

As is, the seat is not comfortable standing up while running and sits to low to sit down. I do like the flip seat for fishing though. I stumbled across a forum on THT that led me to a guy that sells cooler seat kits that raise the cooler itself around a foot. Looks like it could be a good cheaper fix. I did reach out to Bob to see what he can do.

If you want a cheaper solution, look for a used leaning post. I have one if you’re interested, but I haven’t taken the time to figure out how much it’s worth.

I did this on my Sea Pro several years ago. Pulled the captains chairs, and got a leaning post from Clover Enterprises in Summerville (thats the name of it). Paid $400 for one they had in the shop randomly. Installed with lag bolts and never looked back. I’m so glad I did it.

Raymond Martin is a very good friend and fishing buddy of mine and the best metal fabricator and upholstery man that I have ever seen. One of the best men I’ve ever met also. My new custom boat build is at his shop right now having a T-top, leaning post, swim platform and seat cushions made. Nobody except Raymond and I work on my boats. His work is usually better than mine, his talents are amazing :sunglasses:

Here’s one I did for a customer a few weeks ago. The rise is 6 1/2", but one could be built taller.

How much would one of those cost, Bob? I could use on in my boat.

I installed Martins Marine Designs “lift kit” for my swing back cooler seat. This made a huge difference in my 19’ CC. First it is a quality piece of hardware and mounted up solidly. It provides a better view over the console and is good for sitting or leaning. An added bonus is all the free space underneath for tackle boxes and buckets. I highly recommend this modification. Also, everything bolted up perfectly, no new holes in the floor.

If Raymond built it, expect it to be perfect.

I think you may be referring to Carolina Cushions. A friend of mine's brother in law owns that place. They do excellent work.

I had the same issue with cooler seat and wanted to gain storage area underneath for stowing bumpers/fenders. Happy Bob made the one pictured for me. I just sent him measurements on everything, including bolt holes so everything will match to same hole. Unfortunately I have not installed it yet so don’t have those pictures to post yet (sorry, Bob!). Bob did it for a great price and work is quality. If you decide to have Bob make one, I’m back and forth on Charlotte-Charleston fairly regular and glad to transport it down for you/Bob. I’ll post pics of it installed after I get to it in a couple of weeks.

Got your pm Bob, I’ll definitely have to think about it, but right now is probably not a good time to buy stuff for the boat. My wife and I are expecting twins in June, so I might have to sleep in the boat if I buy something like that right now!

I’ve never seen Bob’s work in person, but from the pictures I’ve seen it all looks great.

Here are a few projects Raymond is building for me now.

Swim platform in stainless. This man can run a pretty bead:sunglasses:

Polished out…

Same old reclamed cypress used on the platform as the soles and steering pod, not finished with clear coat and non-skid yet…

Leaning post mock up in cardboard…

Bending pipe…Raymond doesn’t do straight lines

Not like this they don’t

Building jigs to square it…

The 2 rod holders will support a removable back rest. The boat already has 18, really doesn’t need any more.
