Coolered Out Twice Today

Mostly Large & XL with some mediums mixed in, de-heading as I type. Time spent 1 hour to the dock and back at the house. Finished for the year, 70 lbs heads off in the chester freezer shortly.

Yall have at it!

can you give the rest of us a general area? maybe some hope for the rest of us after all!

that is a good haul but isn’t the limit 29qts headed per day? must have had two or three others with you. hope so.

I live in Lexington and it is about 140 miles from my house to McClellanville. About 2 1/2 hours drive time. So I could do that in about 5 hours plus the time spent at Carolina Seafood buying them. Less time if I went to Wando Seafood instead. With the way my shrimping season has been going, buying them may be my best option.

bowhunter; i am with you. it is a good haul from lexington. i love to throw the net but unless i have somebody to split it with then it is very expensive. i would not mind giving it a try and then hit up carolina seafood for another 50 or so lbs. i talked with mr rut this past week and he said the he has some pretty shrimp coming in. if i can find somebody this next week may go one day during the week. keep in touch.

I bought them off the dock !

Did the shrimp baiting bs for years, easier this way and cheaper by far.

Gas/bait binder/tags/oil/clay/ clean the boat, wear and tear by going forwards and reverse. It just ain’t worth it.

cane pole; that is not fair. you got to tell us that on your first post so that we do not raz your butt. ha ha you and i both know what a lot of us were thinking. then again; you are not from out of state (nc); so there usually is no chance of cheating. right?

by the way; where did you buy them? got to do the same thing. thanks.

It was obvious to me that you had bought them. I did not believe for a second that anybody could catch 2 limits in one day much less would post and brag about it. Medium to large shrimp don’t seem to be plentiful enough inshore this year to catch them like that. Small to very small shrimp are. Go to Trenchards Inlet and you can catch all the popcorn shrimp you could want. As far as the cheaper part, you are correct, but you can’t put a price on fun even thought the cost has it’s limit. I enjoy being out there. Coolbreeze, I would like to get together sometime and give them a try. It will be at least 2 weeks before I can go again.

I totally agree with bowhunter you cant put a price on the fun and just being out there. If your worried about spending money then then you dont need to do any type of hunting or fishing because its always cheaper to just buy it.

how muc are large and x large shrimp off the boat and where you get them thanks

We bought 50lbs of 16 to 20 count for $3.00 a pound.

Medium / large mixed 50 pounds for $2.00 a pound.

Total $250.00 for 70lbs total after de-heading comes to $3.57a lb

I tell you who makes all the money is the grocery stores and seafood markets. Harris teeter was selling medium / large heads off for $8.99lb. What a rip off, 16 to 20 count were $10.99lb.

I rather give my money to the boats direct.

Started baiting with the lemattys in the early 80’s before you even had to do a tag, and no regulations. We used to shrimp across from the navy base, and at times fill five coolers with xl and jumbos. It was crazy, shrimp jumping in the boat and many cast would have over 5 pounds a cast. We at times had problems getting the jon boat back on the trailer because of all the weight.

canepole; did you say that you went to carolina seafood and got those? you can send me an email if you like. i would like to know where you got yours. i am going down this week to get 1-200 lbs for me and my friends. thanks

50lb boxes only, I will e-mail you info

Could you PM me or email me with where you purchase the shrimp. Looks like I will be buying shrimp this year.

Hec this year I may do both, spend the money and time throwing that net and enjoying the beautiful bay and then wind up at the dock and buy a good bit of large ones off the boat. It’s gonna be an expensive shrimp season…

A good driver never has to use reverse gear while shrimping, just forward and cut the wheel and a lot more fun with family and friends on the water than to buy em just my opinion but atleast you supported the commercial shrimpers
