Coopah Rivah!

Family is in town for my wedding this weekend so i grabbed my soon to be brother in-law and left the house as quickly as possible this morning. Picked up some “Hand Selected Mudders” they were about 3 inches a piece i told my Bro in-law if we hook up we better have our big boy pants on with these (**() minnows. Got on the water just after dead low. Tried a spot that has been producing some decent trout with no luck. Pulled up anchor and took off to my next ol’honey-hole and came around the creek bend to see a boat in my spot. I slow down and ask if they would care if we fished about 30 yards up river from them. They say sure so we set anchor and start to get our lines in the water first 3" mudder i cast out and set the rod down to pick up my Zman houdini paddle tail and as soon as i do the bottom rod starts singing zzzzzzzzzzz zzzzzzzzzzz zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz i hand it to my brother he gets it in we snap a few pictures its close to 30 inches

i bait my hook and put it in the same spot. . . the guys behind us ask what we are using i tell them exactly what we are using they say thats what they are using i turn around and zzzzzzziiiiiiiiiiiing my 7ft ugly stick lite is doubled over with smoke coming off the drag i pick it up and this fish makes 3-4 good runs with massive head shakes and i finally turn it around and get it to the boat

take some pictures and as im taking the pictures the two dicks that were fishing behind is now sitting exactly where we were casting (20ft infront of our boat) the guy up front CHUCKS his (() anchor almost 10ft high and about 15ft across the water where we were fishing and then proceeds to turn around right after launching the (() anchor and says “Well hell we are using the same shiiiit and aint catchin nothin” i just shook my head and moved on down the river. . . we didnt catch another red but we caught 5 smaller trout and a flounder

Very nice, and congratulations on your impending doom, I mean marriage. Ha Ha

Very nice reds! I’ve been fishing Gulp but will definitely try out the Z-Man baits very soon…they don’t smell as nasty as the Gulp does. I know that spot but haven’t tried it in a while…glad to know that it still works…just around the bend from there going out of the creek to the left is good flounder spot also.

Sounds like a great day, great report!

We tried the same spot in the Cooper on Saturday…got 1 small trout, 1 small flounder, and 1 red that broke me off…it was like a freight train when hooked. It swam away from the pilings and headed out into open water but never stopped. I was fishing a float rig with a ‘bobber stopper’ and the line broke at the stopper. It was fun for a short time though. It was a nice day despite the weather forecast.
