Cooper 1/19

Fished with BOSN and my HS buddy Scott.

Nothing for the first 2 hours as we froze our fingers off :face_with_head_bandage:

Worked hard, moving often. Boat totals: Ended up with 20-25 trout, to 17". Caught 3 reds, biggest at 30", but lost it boat side, and 1 real nice january flatty at 18".

Had a lot of fun even though the catching was slow…

Water temp was 30-34F (I think BOSN needs a new thermo :stuck_out_tongue:)

All fish caught on trout tricks and various color gulp jerk shads.

Here is another example of a trout trick reaction bite when not in feeding mode…

Water temp must have been in Celsius, or either you were ice fishing and didn’t know it!

Great report BTW.

Good job on the slam, Op. I see your jig head is tied directly to the main line, and you don’t use a loop knot, which seems to be the preferred knot in such applications. It’s obvious you know how to catch fish, so I’d appreciate any ■■■■■■■■ regarding your setup. Thanks in advance.

“I’m not a hundred percent in love with your tone right now…”

When I use a fluoro leader I will use a non slip loop knot. I mostly tie 10 lb Green power pro tied directly to the jig. It’s so thin you don’t need a loop knot and there is no extra knots to fail. I became a believer after watching Ralph Phillips put on a show catching trout in the Wando “gin” clear water with this setup. I can hardly see 10 lb green pp so I figure the fish can’t either

BTW want to clarify that the slam was a boat slam not individual! BOSN had the big red and flatty and I had most of the trout and a red. The flatty was a nice surprise!

Excellent report. I fished (Little River) today and didn’t see, smell or hear a fish. ICW water was 53 degrees. Electric Chicken was DOA today. Coming back in, my Dockmaster says “You get anything? A guy on the dock caught 5 or 6 nice Trout off the dock right by you today”. Well, it was a nice day anyway.

I promise you the water temp was not 30 degrees F…you probably would have needed ice skates to move around.

I know it wasn’t 30F :). That’s really what it read but we knew it was around 56-58 or so

sounds like you had a good. Nothing like a flatty this time of year
